Total Return
Total return is a term used in measuring performance, which takes into account a number of sources of returns that an asset or fund may have had over the defined period.
Total return includes capital appreciation of an asset, as well as any sources of income that the asset has received, whether that is dividends, distributions, coupons for bonds or interest. It is intended to represent the overall rate of return.
You may see cumulative, discrete or annualised performance of a fund on a Fund Factsheet for example; where these values are shown they are generally calculated on a total return basis.
